User Management

Users must be created or imported in order to be assigned licenses and usage privileges. At this time users can be created in Ping through any of the following 3 methods:

  • Created directly in the Ping web portal manually; or
  • Imported directly from your Qlik Sense site; or
  • Imported from a spreadsheet in the format of a csv file

Note: You can use multiple of these methods to load users in on the same Ping instance but the User Name field (which is the equivalent of the User ID in Qlik Sense) must be distinct.

To create users manually in Ping is simple. You may be familiar with these steps if you created the super user account when you first setup Ping.

  • Navigate to Admin > User Management > Users (you will need to be logged in as an administrator or the super admin to view this menu)
  • Click on the create user button at the bottom left of the table.
  • Enter the Qlik user ID, this must match the user ID field in Qlik Sense.
  • Enter the user full name
  • Enter the user directory linked to the user ID. This must match the user directory field in Qlik Sense.
  • Enter the email address for the user in the email ID field.
  • Select a role for the user from (administrator or user)
Note: additional permissions can be granted to a user through the user privileges functionality.
  • Click save and you will be taken back to the users table.

You will need to assign licenses and user privileges to finish setting up your users. Please see the following pages for these instructions.

To make the setup of users as simple as possible you can import the users from your Qlik Sense site. Follow the simple steps below to setup your users.
Note: You can sync these users at any time by clicking in the button again but you may find that some information may be overwritten, for example if you have added an email.

  • Navigate to Admin > User Management > Users (you will need to be logged in as an administrator or the super admin to view this menu)
  • Click on the sync Qlik Sense users button at the bottom left of the table.

Ping will use the the data source setting you have set up to connect to Qlik and import the user that are held there. This may take a number of seconds if you have a large number of users.
Note: The information that is brought across from Qlik will attempt to complete most of the fields in the user record. If there is an email address held in Qlik for the user it will be assigned and the user role will be assigned by default.

  • Check the table to ensure that users you wish to use Ping have an email address.
  • Identify the users you wish to make administrators and edit these to assign that user role.
    • click on the edit (pencil) icon
    • Select administrator in the role dropdown
    • click save
